727 Fuselage Home
Costa Rican accommodation resembles a crash site, but with a nice balcony
Category Odd Accommodations
If you came upon the 727 Fuselage Home without context, you'd probably start looking around for emergency responders. Then you'd probably notice the rock pedestal, staircase leading up to the door and the balcony protruding from its wing and realize its just a spectacular, if not a little unnerving beachfront accommodation.
Built out of a 1965 Boeing 727, the bright red airplane has been completely revamped to create a luxurious hotel suite with wood finishes, rocking chairs and all the standard amenities of a hotel. Each piece of the airplane was brought from San Jose Airport to the Costa Verde Resort, restored and assembled. Tucked right into the rainforest canopy on a stone pedestal, the suite has incredible views over the trees out to the ocean and the beach.
For people looking to immerse themselves in Costa Rica's wilderness, or maybe live out a Lost fantasy without any of the hassles of a real plane crash, the 727 Fuselage Home is a perfect alternative.

Thanks for the suggestions! We actually have El Avion in the Atlas: http://atlasobscura.com/place/el-avion-restaurant-and-bar. Can't wait to visit myself someday!

Costa Verde is my favorite hotel in Manuel Antonio (I work in Costa Rican tourism, so I know what I'm talking about). I've never stayed in the 727 suite, but hopefully someday. Anyway, you left out the best airplane on the property! Restaurant El Avión is a restaurant/bar built around one of Oliver North's secret planes, used to supply the Contras during the 1980s. When the Iran-Contra Affair story broke, the Reagan Administration and CIA just pulled up stakes in Central America and abandoned all sorts of equipment, including that plane. Even if you don't stay here, if you're in Manuel Antonio you HAVE to drop by El Avión for a drink. The views are outstanding.
