Colour Experience (Color Museum)

A museum devoted to the science of color

Category Museums and Collections, Instruments of Science

In 1884, a group of color enthusiasts formed a group known as the Society of Dyers and Colourists. Still in existence today, the group aims to advance the science of color in the world and group prides themselves on being the only international professional society dealing with color.

The Society received recognition for their institution with a Royal Charter of Incorporation in 1963 and started up a Color Museum not far from their headquarters in Bradford, UK. The museum was designed to educate both children and adults about the science of color and how it affects the world around us. Believing we have taken color for granted, the SDC Color Museum aims to tell us otherwise. Through a variety of interactive stations and models, the Colour Museum shows and tells all regarding color.

Unfortunately, the SDC Colour Museum had to be shut down. They are now doing interactive programs, and presenting on color, to schools and colleges. If you are interested in such an event, get in contact with the Society of Dyers and Colourists with the information supplied both above and below. They also have an online version of the museum on their website at www.colour-experience.org.
