Kymaerica is the name of a continent in a universe parallel to our own. (Some call it the Other Umbrasphere, some the Kaimarra.) Geographically, the continent is largely similar to our own North America according to Kymaerica's keepers. Instead of countries or states, Kymaerica is separated into gwomes, each making a different type of culture, most human, but others not.

The result of a three-dimensional storytelling project, Kymaerica has a large following with separate webpages and sponsored events. There are books and meetings and presentations. There's even a travel guide. A lot of what that travel guides to are plaques installed around our own country to honor events from the alternative world.

The plaque on Canada's Hornby Island concerns a remarkable creature known as the Hornby Uintotherium. It is one of the smallest of the Uintotheria and usually quite docile, although occasionally a stubborn one can do some damage. Uintotheria look a bit like rhinoceros, according to lore, but they have the strangest knob and protrusions on their heads. Some people say they are shy because of how they look.
