Opus 40
One man's six-acre monument to the quarryman
Category Strange Statues, Outsider Architecture
To create a monument to the men who worked in the quarries, Harvey Fite began a 40 year project called "Opus 40." Alone and using only traditional tools, Harvey worked from 1938 to 1972 on this "Opus". The sprawling sculpture of ramps, terraces, and bridges of dry fit blue stone is a wonder which envelops the viewer.

my grandfather, who I never met, worked in the quarries . My mother, RIP, grew up in Sawkill, then in Kingston. She often spoke of her father. Would love to visit. Do you have a website or email?
