Dr. Andrew Still coined the term osteopathy in 1874, emphasizing the role of the musculoskeletal system in health and disease. Though osteopathy is occasionally used in medicine as a complementary treatment, it is often accused of lacking evidence to support its use. Founded by Still, this osteopathy school and museum ignores these criticisms and celebrates Still and the history of osteopathy.
The museum’s main gallery features more than a dozen exhibits, ranging from a dissected human nervous system -- one of only four such dissections known to exist -- to a reproduced Victorian house parlor showcasing personal property of A.T. Still and his family. The Cranial Concept exhibit highlights Dr. William Garner Sutherland's development of cranial osteopathy, and features two unusual research helmets made by Dr. Sutherland.
