The House of Automata
Automata Shop, Workshop and Exhibition
Category Amazing Automata
The House of Automata is in new premises in Kinloss, near Inverness NE Scotland. Run by Michael and Maria Start, professional automata restorers and "dedicated to promoting knowledge of the subject and inspiring new makers."
In the workshop you can see work taking place on the antique automata that come from all over the world to be expertly restored and conserved.
The Automata Arcade has a push button exhibition of modern pieces by some of the finest modern makers.
The Micro Museum hosts some inspiring, decayed automata and mechanisms displayed as curiosities in cabinets.
The House of Automata also houses a private collection of rare antique automata that we are pleased to show and demonstrate by prior arrangement.*
A visit promises a full expose of the anatomy of mechanical life, from a ship the size of a fingernail to the glamorous Nancy, a larger than life lady automaton.

Just visited the House of Automata and absolutely loved it. Very interesting and majestic! Met the lovely Maria & Michael and they made us feel very welcome. Will definitely re-visit and view future exhibitions. Thank you :)
