New Tipu’s Tiger App for iPhone
I stumbled across this on the V&A website yesterday, and immediately downloaded it. It’s an App designed to imitate the rare privilege of playing the organ housed in the extraordinary man eating tiger-shaped automaton known as Tipu’s Tiger.
It seems to be timed to coincide with the release of a new book about the “Man-Tyger-Organ” by Susan Strong.
The App itself featured a 3-D rendered image of the organ that you can rotate or play virtually via mini-keyboard, or set to play a creepy high-pitched version of God Save the Queen, while the red arm of the being-devoured colonial waves helplessly. Awesome.
