The bars may be closed, but that doesn't mean you can't whip up something delicious in your own kitchen. Meryll Cawn, a friend of Atlas Obscura and long time wine, beer, and spirits professional based in San Francisco, will lead you through our debut of Pantry Potables. This online experience will teach you how to make incredible cocktails with everyday items that may already be sitting on your kitchen shelves.
We'll begin with tea infusion cocktails, making both a Manhattan variation with Pisco and a Collins with gin, and close out the experience making an Oleo Saccharin Shrub and French 75 variation. What is a shrub, you ask? You'll just have to join us to find out all the tips and tricks of manning the bar (or kitchen counter...) at home.
We're keeping ingredients required for this experience pretty basic, so just make sure to have the following on hand if you want to join Meryll in the cocktail making:
- Your favorite tea in bag or loose leaf
- At least 6oz of your favorite spirit
- A pitcher or large glass mixing bowl
- A strainer
- 1 cup of sugar
- 2 grapefruits or oranges or 4 lime or lemon
- Vinegar
- A muddler/meat tenderizer/pestle
- A peeler
Bartending is Meryll's first love and after this experience, we think you may be able to stir up the same affection for it right inside your pantry.
