Ever heard of The Martinez? Often referred to as the "Father" of the Martini, both its flavor and history are complex. Sure, it's a classy order on a date, but learning the expert tips and tricks from a bartender to whip it up at home is next level.
Meryll Cawn, a friend of Atlas Obscura and long time wine, beer, and spirits professional based in San Francisco, will lead you through our debut of Stirred Classics & Their History. This online experience will teach you how to make The Martinez and dive into the history behind how the drink came to be.
We're keeping ingredients required for this experience pretty basic, so just make sure to have the following on hand if you want to join Meryll in the cocktail making:
- Old Tom Gin or a London Dry Gin or Genever
- Sweet Vermouth
- Maraschino liqueur
- Orange bitters
- An orange or lemon
- A cocktail glass
- A mixing glass or pint glass
- A bar spoon or butter knife
- Ice
- A peeler or paring knife
- A jigger
- A Julep or Hawthorn Strainer (optional)
Bartending is Meryll's first love and after this experience, we think you may be able to stir up the same affection for it right inside your home.
