In this guided science adventure by Atlas Obscura trip leaders and co-authors Maygen Keller and Emily Hoff (Scenic Science of the National Parks), we’ll make our way through some of the most beloved, visited, and biodiverse places – the US National Parks – and the amazing science stories they contain.
For this session, you'll get to pick the park on our adventure through “deep time” — the millions and billions of years that make up the stretch of time from the beginning of everything until now. Explore the stirrings of life, the cataclysm of mass extinctions, and the rise of the mammals against the jaw-dropping backdrop of the U.S. National Parks. You’ll (deep) time travel, all without leaving your couch!
Attendees will help pick which parks and storylines we explore and enjoy gorgeous photographs and incredible stories of science along the way, so join us on this one-of-a-kind journey and help blaze our trail.
As the authors of Scenic Science of the National Parks, Maygen Keller and Emily Hoff have spent years traveling and researching the incredible science that exists all over national parks across the U.S. When they aren’t writing books you can find them leading astro-tourism trips for Atlas Obscura, planning their next adventure, and drinking Evan Williams on Skype with each other (#2020).
Once registered, you can access the Zoom room for this experience through your confirmation email or Eventbrite account.
