About
America, America is a modernist sculpture along the Tampa Riverwalk at Laurel Street. Created by Philadelphia-born artist Barbara Neijna, now a longtime Florida resident, the sculpture consists of two imposing steel forms, made from a rectangle and acute triangle, and standing about 18 inches apart, shooting upward. Some suggest that the sculpture evokes a ritual entryway.
Acquired as part of the Hillsborough County Public Library collection in 1977, the city moved the sculpture along the Riverwalk in 2016 to add a pop of color to the shoreline. It’s one of many works of public art you’ll find around the city.
