About

Located at the mouth of the Wanquan river, where it discharges into the South China Sea, Bo'ao is near the eastern coastal city of Qionghai. A small town on Hainan Island, China, Bo'ao is a fishing village that is best known for the annual Bo'ao Forum for Asia.

Modeled after the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, the Bo'ao Forum for Asia is a high-level forum for leaders from business, academia, and government in Asia and other continents to share their visions on the most pressing issues of the day in this dynamic region.

Initiated in 1998 by Fidel V. Ramos, the former president of the Philippines; Morihiro Hosokawa, the former prime minister of Japan; and Bob Hawke, the former prime minister of Australia, the Bo'ao Forum was inaugurated in February of 2001 to promote regional economic integration. The organization held its first meeting on April 12, 2002. In addition to the annual meeting, the Bo'ao Forum for Asia also sponsors other forums related to Asian issues.

Because of the prestigious event, Bo'ao is impeccably maintained every day of the year. Blooming planters and clean-swept streets will be enjoyed by visitors on any day. Additionally, the small town has a diverse selection of ethnic restaurants as well as one of the most well known seafood eateries on the entire island. Peaceful and quiet, Bo'ao combined international savvy with small town appeal. Dotted with ancient temples and surrounded by lush rice fields, Bo'ao is the perfect beach getaway for those who want to avoid the crowds and high prices of Sanya.
