About

Tucked away behind the Breckenridge Ice Rink sits Isak Heartstone, the happy if not secluded Troll of Breckenridge. Originally built along the side of Breck Mountain, he had too many visitors and had to be moved to a more accessible location.

The 15-foot sculpture was built by the Danish artist and recycling activist Thomas Damboas a part of the 2017 Breckenridge International Festival of Arts. After locals complained about the amount of traffic the troll received in its original location, the sculpture was moved.  After it was dismantled, Dambo reimagined the troll. He used the original head, heart, hands, and feet but rebuilt the body in a new location in 2019.

Isak Heartstone is one of several similar works by Dambo, who has created outdoor sculptures around the world. You can find more of Dambo's trolls in Kentucky, Denmark, Belgium, and many other locations. A map of all the troll locations can be found at trollmap.com.
