About

Constructed between 1782-1785, this still functioning water-powered grist mill, owned by the Clarke County Historical Association, still grinds grain the way it did in the 18th-century. It is one of the only historic operating mills in the country where the water wheel is located on the inside.

A 20,000-pound water wheel turns two, 3,000-pound grindstones to produce wheat, cornmeal, and grits.
