About

Charlie the Coal Miner is a 21-foot-tall statue made of scrap metal with a functioning lighted miner helmet. This is an awesome piece of art and coal mining history in Shinnston, West Virginia, a former coal town along the West Fork River. The statue was commissioned 1999 as a tribute to a coal miner killed in the mines in 1951. Memorial bricks dedicated to local coal miners surround the statue.
