Cleopatra's Needle is a twin to a similar monument in NYC and a sibling to one in Paris. It was originally erected in the Egyptian city of Heliopolis on the orders of Thutmose III, around 1450 BC and was given to the UK in 1819. Also noteworthy are the two sphinxes that guard it which bear the scars of a German bomb from World War I.
