About

This rest stop in Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin, located off Green Bay Road, contains one of the Midwest’s best hidden gems: the Comic Sans Bathrooms. Both men’s and women’s bathrooms are adorned with yellow-gold walls and stalls on which you will find a wide variety of center-aligned quotes at haphazard angles. The text selections range in genre; there are inspirational quotes, tokens of sage advice, and tongue-in-cheek witticisms that would be equally at home on Homegoods wall hangings.

Regardless of your opinion of Comic Sans, these bathrooms are a treasure: roadside whimsy on the route to Door County, a peek inside the mind of a tortured graphic designer—or perhaps goofy gas station designer—and above all, a reminder that the world we live in, so often well-designed, is full of little pockets of lawless play and free will. As the Comic Sans says right below the paper towels and before the door stop: “The rest of your life begins right here and now....”
