About
Built at the spot where the Susquehanna river flows into the Chesapeake Bay, this lighthouse has been lighting the way for ships since 1827. The lighthouse is only open during weekends in the summer, but you can still visit the ground any time. The keeper's house is across the street, and the keeper originally had to visit the lighthouse twice a day to keep it lit with whale oil. Today electric lights are used and the keepers residence is preserved as a museum.
