About

The Connecticut Air & Space Center is a place where history comes alive. The volunteer-run, nonprofit air museum is just one of two educational organizations of its type located in the state of Connecticut, and the only one located in a portion of an original World War II aircraft factory. Visitors can expect to discover over 16 vintage aircraft either on display, in restoration, or in storage. In addition, an ever-expanding collection of memorabilia and artifacts are on display in various exhibits.

Founded in 1998, the museum currently occupies the "Blue Building" of the Curtiss Hangar at the former Stratford Army Engine Plant complex, which closed in 1999. The museum is one of only a handful throughout the United States to be located in a portion of an original World War II aircraft factory.

Know Before You Go

The museum is located on government property and is maintained by a security staff. The CASC is only open to those 18 and over after receiving a safety briefing and signing a waiver to enter. It's open Tuesday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., Thursday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Note: do not expect to walk into the Smithsonian. This is a down-to-earth museum/restoration shop filled with volunteers who workto bring back these old aircraft. The original R & D hangar the museum is located in is as historically significant (and creepy) as the aircraft inhabiting it.
