'Cornucopia'
Winner of the Leeds Award for Architecture and the Environment.
This huge mural has been a feature of the area around Leeds Corn Exchange for over 30 years.
Artist Graeme Wilson, who painted the mural in 1990, hailed from nearby Ilkley and was a graduate of Reading University before going on to have a varied career. Wilson worked in all sorts of mediums, as well as lectured at various art institutions before succumbing to cancer in 2018.
Sponsored by the Corn Exchange, the mural proudly sits on the side of an old chip shop. It features the building of its patronage towards the front of the work, alongside the goddess Cornucopia herself—a nod perhaps to the wealth and abundance of the city that she is associated with.
The mural also won the Leeds Award for Architecture and the Environment.
