About

Se Cathedral is said to be one the largest churches built in Old Goa during the Portuguese Era. Old Goa, now Velha Goa, was the former capital of the Portuguese possessions in India before the capital was shifted to Panaji.

Inside the cathedral, visitors will find a flight of stairs leading down to a crypt. The crypt has a glass cover on its top and a light shining down to showcase its depth. Next to the crypt on the floor is an old stone inscription in Portuguese.

It's said that this crypt was discovered in recent years by an employee working on underground wiring. The crypt is believed to be a little over six feet deep, with a cross mounted on its wall. Local authorities think the crypt contains bones that may have belonged to an erstwhile Portuguese governor, viceroy, or bishop.
