About
CUBO is the 25-foot iron sculpture and installation where artist Alberto Frigo’s sanctuary of memories and life-project is guarded. It is located a thousand meters above the sea level in the Italian Little Dolomites, inside the municipality of Schio, in the Veneto region. It has been created in collaboration with the Swedish software developer August Brunnberg for its digital part and with the Italian architecture firm Studiofficina for the creation and design of the installation.
The wireframe-like cladding structure is made by 15,552 welded iron pixels and represents the medium in which the artist has decided to preserve his artwork: a digital envelope. The views inside the space give the tunnel like sensation of walking in pixelated memories. On the inside, one can explore his online archive and personal journey, which Frigo has been documenting for the last 20 years. This archive contains dreams, drawings, and more.
The artist started this project in 2004 and plans to finish it in 2040. Meanwhile, the creation of CUBO started in 2016.
