About
The electricity pylon of the Rhine powerline crossing Düsseldorf-Reisholz is one of the few lattice towers in the world under whose legs a normal gauge railway runs. It is the railway connection of Holthausen substation, where the powerline it carries ends.
In earlier days it was also used by a coal-fired power station nearby, but this does not exist any more. The pylon was built in 1917 and belongs to the oldest of its kind in Germany.
Unfortunately you will rarely get the chance to see a train passing under the legs of the pylon. The rail to the substation is only in use when greater parts e.g. transformators, are exchanged.
