About
Route 163 offers a beautiful and unique scenic adventure across Monument Valley, bringing visitors back to the world of the Wild West and cowboys. Because of this, it's not surprising that Hollywood films are quite fond of the area. Around marker 13 is the location where Forrest Gump stopped running.
The titular protagonist of the 1994 movie of the same name, Gump lived an extraordinary life where being at the right place at the right time was at the heart of the film. Despite his luck, Gump was not always happy. Eventually, the weight of everything became too much and Gump started running—an attempt to clear his mind and make sense of all he had experienced.
He crossed the country several times in three years, two months, 14 days, and 16 hours before suddenly remembering a quote from his mother, "Put the past behind you and move on."
Gump stopped running and declared to his fans that he was tired and going home. The exact location where this happened became known as Forrest Gump Point and is now a popular selfie spot.
