About
The Stiefel (German for boot), is a table-like rock comprised of red sandstone resembling a turned-up boot, which may be the origin of its name. Others claim that its name derives from the boot-shape of the mountain on which its located.
The rock was once a religious site and is today a natural monument, displayed on stamps and is a symbol of St. Ingbert. It became so popular that it was used as the template for "Ingo," a popular cartoon figure in the city.
