About
The Hollycombe Steam Collection is a beloved destination for locals in the Hampshire area. Formed in the 1940s, the collection has since grown to include a wide range of steam-powered rides, engines, and attractions.
The Edwardian Funfair contains 13 attractions, many of which are unique or rare. The Steam Yacht, which was built in 1911, is the only one of its kind in the United Kingdom. Mr. Field's Steam Circus is the world's oldest surviving mechanically driven fairground ride. Alongside this, there are also the Gallopers, Steam Swings, Big Wheel, and Razzle Dazzle. The BioScope shows a range of vintage films from its original era.
The collection also holds a farm, which allows visitors to see steam-powered equipment such as plowing engines, a threshing machine, and a baler.
Circling the grounds are two railways. The first being a narrow gauge railway that construction began on in 1967. The line currently holds two steam locomotives and four diesel locomotives. The second layout is a 7.25-inch gauge miniature railway. The rolling stock for this line holds four engines. The site previously ran a standard gauge railway, with the locomotive now being held in the stockyard alongside the other rolling stock.
The rest of the collection compromises of steam engines such as traction engines, tractors, and road rollers. The collection is set among beautiful gardens that visitors are free to explore on their visit.
