About

Hotel Everland is a touring one-room hotel that is the brain-child of artist duo Sabina Lang and Daniel Baumann, better known as L/B. Originally created for the Swiss national exhibition in 2002, this hotel ran for just over 1000 nights between 2006 and 2009. Reservations were offered one night at a time and posted online at random.

Through design, the duo explored the intersections of fine art and interior design in this single-unit modular hotel. The conflation of mid-century and contemporary aesthetics catches the eye and gives the space a future-modern feel.

By day Hotel Everland acts as a public space where visitors can peer through the glass doors and windows to explore and by night it acts as a one-night-only hotel with a view. Through this interaction, guests are not only viewers but also active participants. Guests were even encouraged to steal the gold-embroidered towels during their stay.

In its run, Hotel Everland visited cities such as Paris, Leipzig, and Bergdorf where it was perched, most often, on the rooftops of contemporary art galleries. This visible placement within the city promotes a discussion of the boundaries between public and private interest.

Unfortunately, this hotel is no longer traveling and cannot be booked for accommodations.
