About
This little gem in Ísafjörður, Iceland, will make you feel like you’ve stepped into other peoples’ lives for a short second—without disrupting or intruding—to uncover how wonderfully beautiful the mundane is. The locals' unique, quirky, and heartwarmingly genuine anecdotes are reminders that even the most ordinary day can make for a fascinating story.
Here, you’ll essentially have a heart–to-heart talk with locals of different ages and backgrounds. You’ll hear about their struggles and their happy days, as well as other quirky episodes from their everyday lives. Their stories are simple and short, but they’re intriguing nonetheless and give a sense of place like no book or visual exhibit ever could.
Flip through the old library books on the wall and you’ll uncover a funny grandmother’s letter or an incredible story about motherhood and devotion. Pick up the headsets next to the the old, worn-out shoes in another corner of the museum to reveal stories from the shoes’ old owners. You’ll find yourself giggling quietly at a pair of ordinary-looking high heels and your breath will be taken away by old fashioned rain boots from the last century.
In the other room, you’ll experience a harsh Icelandic winter in the Westfjords, meet more residents of the region, and find yourself enchanted by the northern lights through short movies made by local artists. You’ll most definitely fall in love with the region, not only for the gorgeous nature surrounding it, but also for the people and their life experiences.
