About

When it was built in the early 1970s, this 1,700-seat amphitheater added another stage to Jekyll Island's music and theater scene. Once a cultural hub on the island, the amphitheater has been unused since 2004, but the stage and bleachers are still intact.

Between 1973 and 2004, the amphitheater hosted a number of plays and musical acts, including touring companies of Broadway shows. When budget cuts led to the end of the theater program, the large outdoor performing space was largely abandoned. In recent years there have been talks of revitalizing the performance space, but plans remain unclear.

Know Before You Go

Driving north on Stable Road, turn right on the dirt road just past the firehouse, then keep to the right to find a green archway. From there it’s a short hike to the amphitheater and pond. When you get to the fork at the hill you can go left or right to get there.
