About
The town of Mangonia was first created by settler reverend Eldridge Gale in 1884 who arrived in the area to establish a mango plantation. In 1884 his son George arrived to build a pineapple farm.
Over the next decade, the small town flourished and had everything from a church to a developed boat-building industry. At Gales Point was the site of Mangonia Boat Works which spurred the rediscovery of this forgotten town. During a routine pool installation in 1973, a steam engine was unearthed. However, it wasn't until the 21st century that the town was fully rediscovered.
The Northwood neighborhood itself is a historic gem. There are multiple houses over 100 years old ranging in beautiful architectural styles from Mission and Vernacular to Mediterranean revival.
