Maine Mineral and Gem Museum

In addition to an incredible collection of Maine pegmatite minerals, especially tourmaline, the museum includes the largest private collection of meteorites, including more lunar meteorites and more Martian meteorites than all other museums in the world combined, which is why it is the only museum in the world where visitors can hold a rock in their hands from Mars and one from the moon - once the coronavirus is under control.

About

In addition to an incredible collection of Maine pegmatite minerals, especially tourmaline, the museum includes the largest private collection of meteorites, including more lunar meteorites and more Martian meteorites than all other museums in the world combined, which is why it is the only museum in the world where visitors can hold a rock in their hands from Mars and one from the moon - once the coronavirus is under control.

After years of planning and effort, the museum opened 12/12/19.  With a population of less than 3000, no one who visits the museum from anywhere, including Boston, New York City and Washington DC, is prepared for the presentations they  experience in each of the six galleries.
