The Manor in Hemingford Grey

Originally constructed in the 1130s, this manor was once the house of Lucy Boston, a famous children's author best known for the book, House of the Green Knowe. Boston was also known for her colorful and intricate patchwork. Many of her written stories were set inside the manor's walls.  

The music room inside plays host to a still functional 1929 EMG gramophone and boasts original Norman stone walls. This is where Boston hosted musical evenings for Royal Air Force soldiers during World War II. The room itself has been left unchanged since the end of the war.

The gardens are lined with topiary coronations and chess shapes that give visitors the feeling of entering a wondrous dreamscape.
