“I just felt like running.” In the 1994 classic film, Forest Gump, the titular character decides to make a trek across America on foot. When famously arrives at the Santa Monica Pier, he figures “since he got this far, might as well turn around and just keep on going.”

The next clip of the film, Forest memorably runs across the country to “another ocean,” and can be seen running down the lock dock of a lighthouse. The landmark in question happens to be The Marshall Point Lighthouse in Port Clyde, Maine

This lighthouse has become regionally popular for the classic film, but is a hidden gem for those who can appreciate an obscure film location.

Know Before You Go

Due to intense storms in early 2024, there was structural damage to the walkway and the lighthouse tower is not open for the season. The museum is still open according to their regular hours and has further information about the history of the lighthouse and facts from filming.
