About

'Mullum Mullum the Owl' is the name given to this eye-catching sculpture that sits on a public path in the Eastern Melbourne suburb of Ringwood. Officially unveiled in July 2017, local artist William Eicholtz designed the work of art. Eicholtz is a contemporary sculptor who has commissioned many public works of art across Australia.

The sculpture depicts a powerful owl, a species found in eastern parts of Australia. It is the largest owl in Australia and can be recognized by its small head and rounded tail. Mullum Mullum has become a much-loved sight to both locals and visitors to the area, due to its prominent position on the Mullum Mullum Creek Trail.

The main sculpture is bronze and has a pair of eyes made of rhinestone that illuminates in the natural light to attract the eyes of visitors. The sculpture was funded by Maroondah City Council and was installed as part of the Acacia Catchment Flood Mitigation Project, a drainage management operation across Ringwood.
