About

Aranjuez is a first-class historical destination, and not just because of its famous palace surrounded by beautiful gardens. There are other corners that could be considered well kept secrets because they are much less known than they deserve; two of these secret corners are located in the Jardín del Príncipe: the Casa del Labrador and the recently-renovated Museo de Falúas Reales (Royal Barges Museum).

The Royal Barges Museum is an iconic site housing a unique collection of royal boats used by the Spanish monarchy on the nearby Tagus River during the 18th and 19th centuries. Established in 1963 by the initiative of the then Prince of Asturias, Juan Carlos I, its purpose was to preserve and exhibit these historic barges.

The collection includes vessels of different styles and periods, from sumptuous royal barges used in ceremonies and official events to boats for everyday use by the royal family and court. The museum offers a fascinating insight into the life and culture of the Spanish royalty during those historical periods, while also highlighting the importance of the Tagus River as an integral part of Aranjuez's history and identity.

The museum's location not too far from the Aranjuez Royal Palace adds further value, allowing visitors to explore both the barges and the impressive architecture and gardens of the palace.

The Royal Barges Museum is a notable tourist attraction offering a unique experience for those interested in naval history and the Spanish monarchy.
