About
Just outside of small-town Amity, Indiana lies the final resting place of Nancy Kerlin Barnett and several family members.
Barnett wanted to be buried at this location because it was her favorite spot overlooking a nearby creek. Eventually, a modern road was constructed along the location and a descendant fought to protect the grave. It was decided the road would split around the site, leaving it preserved as intended.
It was originally thought that only Barnett was buried there, as the grave was above ground until 2016 and apparently only held one resting place. During repairs that year, several others were discovered. They were reinterred in the same spot but deeper down. There is now a plaque and a road sign marking the burial site.

Know Before You Go
To visit the grave, travel south out of Franklin, IN on U.S. 31 to Amity. Proceed to the intersection of County Road 400 South. Turn east (left) and travel approximately one mile to the grave. There is not much room for parking so be careful, even though the road is fairly low-traffic in a rural setting.
