About

A small, well-maintained lot obscured by a hedgerow, encircled by trees, the Nash Family Cemetery is often overlooked by the thousands of shoppers who frequent the Potomac Mills shopping center.

The Nash Family settled in the Woodbridge area in the mid-19th century and built a large farm. Over time, they acquired land from their neighbors, the Patterson and Bramell families, whose descendants, the Hedges and Snelling families, are also buried in the cemetery.

In 1986, a memorial stone was placed just inside the cemetery gates as an homage to the family ancestors who spent their lives living and working on the farm.

There are 14 headstones in the cemetery belonging to the following individuals. An additional nine field stones which may be markers are also extant.

Know Before You Go

The easiest way to visit is to park in the IKEA parking lot across from the entrance to the store and look for the ring of hedges surrounding the cemetery.

The lot can be accessed by concrete stairs with metal handrails leading to the entrance gate.
