About

The up-and-coming neighborhood of The Nations in Nashville hosts a very atypical mural. Unlike the vibrant, colorful murals common in other cities—often depicting historic figures, cultural elements, or significant events—this enormous monochrome mural, spanning over 150 feet, portrays a long-time local named Lee Estes. From his perch on a long-abandoned grain silo, Estes—accompanied by two young children with outstretched arms, on an adjoining face of the building—looks on a bit perplexed at a gentrifying neighborhood. A gentle reminder of things and people displaced in its wake.
