New Orleans Photo Alliance Gallery
A building that was once a general store, a speakeasy, and a newspaper office now holds a small gallery filled with New Orleans photography.
The New Orleans Photo Alliance is a local nonprofit agency that runs a small, exclusive photography gallery in a historical building that has served as a speakeasy, a general store, and the first office of the local newspaper, the Times-Picayune.
Stop by to see the historical remnants of the speakeasy bar smack-dab in the middle of the photography gallery. Visitors can also rent time in the community darkroom in the attached photo resource center. Visitors are welcome to view the rotating gallery of artworks, interact with historical cameras/equipment, and purchase from limited print collections from landmark photographers like Josephine Sacabo and Richard Sexton.
Since 2007, the New Orleans Photo Alliance has put on an annual event that celebrates photography in the city, called PhotoNOLA. The event includes exhibitions, workshops, lectures, and other events meant to promote and support the arts community of New Orleans.
