The Assistens graveyard is one of the more famous cemeteries in Copenhagen and Denmark, acting as the final resting place for many famous Danes and as a park and meeting place for locals. It is also home to Niels Bohr, the renowned physicist and friend of Albert Einstein.

Perhaps best known for his work on atomic structures and quantum mechanics, Bohr was at the forefront of physics in his time, garnering the Nobel Prize in Physics in 1922. He founded the Niels Bohr Institute and is considered one of the country’s most famous inhabitants. He died in 1962 due to heart failure and was cremated and buried in the family grave.

The grave is located along the main path through the graveyard. It is a square structure with grass on top and a granite pillar at its center topped with an owl. His parents, brother, son, and wife are also buried here.
