About
This now abandoned arch bridge was a make-work project constructed in 1936 and opened in 1937 during the Great Depression, located near the small town of Borden, Saskatchewan.
The bridge was abandoned in 1985, as a new bridge was constructed just north of the old bridge which allows for traffic movement.
Interestingly, the Old Borden Bridge was sold by the provincial government to Orville Middleton for the price of $33,000 with plans to construct an open-air dance hall. Sadly, the local municipality prohibited the plan for various reasons and the bridge was eventually re-listed many years later for $1,000,000. It remains unsold to this day.
The old bridge now stands quietly, slowly decaying away as nature reclaims the structure.
