Old Woman’s Shoe
A gigantic shoe, inspired by a nursery rhyme, sits in a park atop Mumbai’s Malabar Hill.
The posh Malabar Hill area in Mumbai has the beautiful Hanging Gardens, which overlook the iconic Marine Drive. Once upon a time, the hill was a part of Bombay Island—one of the original seven islands that made up what is now Mumbai. Later, the seven islands were merged into one single landmass, and the city as we know it today took shape.
At the Hanging Gardens complex, there is a public park called Kamala Nehru Park. The key attraction of this place is an old gigantic shoe built for children. The shoe has been inspired by the nursery rhyme “There was an old woman who lived in a shoe.” Built in 1952, this spot has remained a favorite over several generations.
The shoe is hugely popular amongst children and lots of families visit this park for picnics and relaxation. The park has a lot of kid-friendly activities, along with a rainbow-colored amphitheater and art installations based on children’s stories and poems.
Next to this shoe, there is a viewpoint that offers an amazing view of the Queen’s Necklace (Marine Drive). Several Bollywood movie scenes have been filmed here.
