Nestled in the serene Dutch countryside, Papiermolen De Schoolmeester is a living testament to centuries of papermaking tradition. This historic mill stands as the only remaining example of traditional paper production powered by wind in the Netherlands

Paper mills in the Zaanstreek first appeared at the beginning of the 17th century, producing what once was the best quality paper to be found. These paper mills mainly produced paper used for industrial purposes, such as gray or blue paper. De Schoolmeester produced Zaansch Bord, a type of firm paper typically used by book binders and artists as it could be made in various colors and sizes.

In 2002, De Schoolmeester underwent a restoration of the foundation and wooden structures inside the mill.
