About

Completed in 2018, this record-holding 250-meter (820-ft) bridge spans 14 lanes of Highway 401, six live rail tracks, and a two-lane road. It can be seen clearly from planes flying overhead and provides a vital link between the regional commuter train station (Pickering GO) on the south side and Durham region’s largest shopping mall (Pickering Town Centre), local college, and regional bus service on the north side.

The landmark bridge has a very distinct metal exoskeleton. It’s wrapped in Kalzip, a lightweight aluminum product that is both weather-resistant, energy-saving, and most typically used for roofing. The iconic architecture of the bridge is highlighted at night with close to 300 LED lights in rotating shades of lilac, purple, blue, and teal.

In 2021, Guinness recognized Pickering Bridge as the longest enclosed pedestrian bridge in the world.

Know Before You Go

While driving to this location is certainly an option, the bridge connects the Pickering GO Train Station (regional commuter train) and Pickering Town Centre (large 150+ store indoor mall). The tracks that service the Pickering GO Station run along Lake Ontario’s waterfront, making for a stress-free and picturesque train ride to this destination.
