About
"Rainbow" is the name given to this public art sculpture which was created by local artist Marcus Canning in 2016. Situated on the Beach Reserve between two bridges, this eye-catching work of art in the colorful Perth suburb of Fremantle pays tribute to the industrial port history of the area.
Canning used nine recycled sea containers for the work and they are assembled together to form an impressive arch shape. The arch is 29 feet (9 meters high), 62 feet (19 meters) long, and a hefty 66 tons in weight. By painting the containers in the color of a rainbow, the work gives an insight into the booming creative scene which has seen massive regeneration in recent years.
Locally nicknamed "The Containbow," the collection of sea containers sits in a prime vantage point overlooking the Swan River and visitors are rewarded with great views out to sea.
