About
A black door in the heart of this town leads to the Rijeka Tunnel, also known as TunelRi. The 1,150 foot (350 meters) military tunnel was constructed by the Italian Royal Army between 1939 and 1942. It was utilized to protect civilians from aerial bombing raids conducted by Allied forces during the war.
This subterranean passage can be walked every day from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. for free. The last entrance takes place around 7:45 p.m. The tunnel is also the perfect respite during the summer months for some relief from the heat.
