Site of the Sacco & Vanzetti Funeral
This funeral home had the honor, if that is the correct word, of hosting the funeral of the famous Sacco and Vanzetti.
This plaque memorializing Sacco and Vanzetti in the Boston Public LIbrary tells the story of their wrongful death
The Langone Funeral Home held the wake for death penalty victims Sacco and Vanzetti.
These two Italian men were made infamous for being accused of a 1920 robbery and murder in Braintree, Massachusetts. The men had ties to an Italian anarchist group, and may have been the target of prejudice directed at the minority. Although another criminal confessed to the crime on the same day of their execution, the trial and evidence are still disputed to this day.
The sad event was attended by tens of thousands of people during the two day wake. The funeral procession began here, bringing their bodies to the Forest Hills Cemetery for final rest.
An historical plate has been placed by the city at 256 Hannover St, address of the legal defense group.
