About
Between the many restaurants and art galleries of Delmar Boulevard, it may be easy to miss this memorial to St. Louisans beneath your feet. But on the sidewalk of the Loop, running across the border between St. Louis and University City, are commemorative stars and plaques honoring some of St. Louis' most famous residents who made lasting contributions to American culture.
The Walk of Fame was inaugurated in 1989 with dedications to ten St. Louisans including Chuck Berry, Charles Lindberg, and Katherine Dunham. Since then, every year more names are added to the walk, which now spans six blocks and features over 160 stars.
All the people commemorated spent either their formative or some of their creative years in the St. Louis area. Their areas of cultural contribution range from literature to architecture to sports.
