About

Along the route of the Teesdale Way on the banks of the steel river lies an unusual homage to the iron and steel industry that was once the pride of Middlesbrough and surrounding areas.

Spread throughout the 10-acre park, which is a former slag heap, six life-sized sculptures of dinosaurs can be found. This was once the Ironmasters district, and in an area dominated by heavy industry, some steel has been put to good use to create these colorful goliaths. Opened in 1979 with two triceratops sculptures, the park has since added brachiosaurus, brontosaurus, mammoth, stegosaurus, and tyrannosaurus over the years.

Like the dinosaurs, much of Teesside’s proud industrial heritage is now very much extinct. But these monuments to the past serve to remind visitors that it was Teesside steel that helped built the world, including sites like Sydney Harbour Bridge and the Wembley Arch.

Know Before You Go

It is a mile walk from Middlesborough station through the industrial estate. The park is just off the Ironmasters' Trail which leads along the river.

There is a free car park with a small number of disabled spaces adjacent to the walkways into the park. Most of the dinosaurs in the park are accessible, except the ones at the top of the mound, which are up rough steep slopes.
