Temple House Hostel

This 1873 Italianate home was built by lumber baron Charles McGordon, who allegedly died in a Chicago brothel. It was then bought by Ansel Temple, a beloved mayor, who lived there with his wife until they both died. The ghosts of McGordon and the Temples are said to still haunt it.  

The building was converted into apartments in the 1930s and has been home to more than one lottery winner. Many local bands practiced there, starting in 2006, when the basement became a popular all-ages venue for local and traveling bands of all genres.  In 2015, the current owner opened a hostel, hosting guests from all over the country and world.
